I’ve loved being off on maternity this summer. The weather has been so nice and I am loving getting out and about with my girlies and family and friends and enjoying the outdoors.
The last couple of weeks I’ve once again enjoyed trips to various places such as parks and farms enjoying picnics, walks and play parks. We had a lovely picnic one day with my mum and our niece and the girls enjoyed playing ball in the park, playing on the roundabouts, slides and swings and feeding the ducks. We’ve been to a farm and farm shop where we saw llamas, enjoyed a bite to eat and played in their play park and we also went on a gruffalo hunt at a lovely nature reserve.
We also headed to the Lakes for a few days to meet up with my family for a short break too. I simply adore the Lakes, if I win the lottery I would buy a holiday home there without a shadow of a doubt. The landscape is beautiful and I love the laid back, casual atmosphere as well as the healthy approach that people adopt there. Everywhere you look there are walkers, backpackers, cyclists and climbers. People have such a passion for enjoying the great outdoors come rain or shine and it is an addictive and relaxing atmosphere to be in.
When I was younger we would go walking in the Lakes every year. I’ve climbed the Langdale Pikes and Loughrigg. It is so frustrating that I can’t walk far now. I would love to put on my hiking boots and get out there again, but nowadays it’s more just enjoying the scenery in other ways. However for me, that’s fine, I just like being there.
I was only in the Lakes for a few days and was on my own with the girlies as hubby couldn’t come, so I didn’t do too much but we managed a trip on the Steamer on Lake Windermere, a walk around Winderemere and a visit to the Beatrix Potter Museum, as well as a trip to my favourite shops Poppi Red and Relish in Hawkeshead, I could spend hours in these shops. The Beatrix Potter Museum was really cute and my little girl loved exploring the character displays and having her photo taken. The Steamer Cruise offered amazing views across both shores of Lake Windermere. It’s been years since I’ve done a lake cruise and really enjoyed it, despite my dad sitting us right on the edge by the railings and my toddler refusing to sit still and having a meltdown because we didn’t want her standing close to the edge!
I’d like to say that my few days in the Lakes was a totally peaceful and relaxing experience. However my toddler is going through a period of amazing meltdown tantrums so instead all I can say is “The Hills Were Alive With The Sound of Screaming” for quite a big part of it but that’s for another blog post lol! Despite this we’ve still been enjoying the outdoors on the whole and I have certainly enjoyed the scenery!
