My baby girl is 6 months old and will soon turn 7 months! I can’t believe how time is flying! The last month has seen a lot of firsts, my baby girl seems to be growing up so fast!
We started weaning her as she was showing so much interest in our food and I have to say it is going really, really well! She is loving everything we are giving her! I started on home made purees and have been using lots of pouches and jars of food too for convenience, the quality is so good I don’t worry about it not being my home cooked food constantly. (In fact my home cooked food would be nowhere near the standard! lol!)
She’s currently having lunch and dinner every day and the morning bottle seems to have naturally dropped off as she is often down for a nap when she would have been having it and doesn’t seem to be missing it at all. She’s tried lots of different fruit and veg, as well as chicken, beef and fish. After battling with my toddler over what she will and won’t eat it’s a nice refreshing change to watch baby girl devour anything we give her! She’s also had a bit of finger food, such as rice cakes and other snacks, toast, cucumber, pepper, carrot and I even found her munching on a cheese sandwich during a picnic that I had with friends!
The only issue I am having is introducing water in a cup to her, she doesn’t seem to like the change from a bottle teat so I have resorted to water in a bottle in the heat we have been having to keep her hydrated, but I am persevering with the cup still.
Her sleep habits have changed a bit and she now tends to have two naps a day, one in the morning and one in the afternoon, these can last longer than her previous naps and sometimes are 2-3 hours. She’s settling to sleep a little easier following the introduction of a mobile that Fisher Price kindly sent us, but more on that to come! We’re not totally out of the woods on the sleep front and still have bad days but we are getting there slowly. However she unfortunately has been waking between 3 and 4.30am on a morning again. I’m not sure why and she’s not waking distressed, but if we don’t go to her she does get louder. I’ve resorted to giving her a small bottle and this seems to settle her and she generally goes down to sleep again. I would be inclined to say it’s a growth spurt and she’s hungry but she’s already eating lots during the day so I am not so sure. She did this when she was 4 months old and settled back down for a few weeks so hopefully she will settle again.
Baby girl is now sitting up unaided, she seemed to just pick it up and go with it, she hasn’t toppled too many times and is loving being able to sit and explore and play with her toys. I’ve put down a giant padded alphabet play mat we have to catch any unexpected topples just in case!
She is literally intrigued by everything and grabs whatever she can! I can see I’m going to need to be on the ball a lot more than I was with her sister as I think she will be at everything, where her sister wasn’t, we didn’t need to move ornaments or anything. I think it may be a little while before she’s on the move though as she hates tummy time, like her sister and has only rolled a couple of times. I think I’m going to have another bum shuffler!
Everyone comments on her infectious smile, she beams at everyone she meets and is giving the most adorable impish little cheeky grin at the minute it is so sweet. She’s also started laughing and likes it when I tickle her tummy.
She seems to be doing really well after the Pavlik harness too and loves it when we hold her and she can bear weight on her legs for a short time, in fact I wouldn’t be surprised if she skips crawling and bum shuffling and goes straight to walking! lol!
She has two teeth and dribbles constantly so I am sure more are on the way. All in all teething hasn’t caused her too much distress yet though thankfully! She’s babbling lots and loves having little chats with us all, she seems to be making “g” noises at the minute and has definitely found a new way of expressing herself, with a sharp, high pitched shriek, which unfortunately her sister also used to do too. It certainly gets us noticed when we are out and about!
She simply adores her sister and gets really excited when she sees her, luckily her sister is still great with her, she’s the first person she asks for on a morning and always wants to give her kisses and cuddles. The only issue we have is sharing as big sis seems to think ALL the toys (including the baby toys) are hers and snatches things off poor baby girl. I am sure once she’s on the move she will get her own back though! lol!
I just can’t believe my baby is almost 7 months! I want to savor every little moment of the cute, cuddly, baby time and bottle it! It’s also making me realise that I am well over half way in my maternity leave and I will be returning to work too, I feel a bit sad, but like most people, we need the money so it has to be done. For now I am going to enjoy every minute with both my girls.
